 General Info...
Back to Full Blog

Hi all... I have been (slowly) cleaning out the featured blogs and removing ones that have not been updated in a while, as well as adding new ones.

In regards to how featured works -- please don't ask or bug me to be featured -- I just browse around and if something catches my eye I feature it.

It looks like the internal change I made a week or so ago, the one that I mentioned may speed up the system, has worked! The system has been MUCH more responsive lately and we should be ok for a while.

Lastly, I wanted to ask peoples thoughts about a premium membership. Before people start yelling at me -- I plan on nothing changing with the current system... it's staying free as always! However, even with the ads on the site, the site loses a little money.

As a member, would you be interested in a "premium membership" that would gain you extra features or abilities? I envision it would be a fixed yearly fee such as $10-$20 and would be completely optional. As for what you would get, the only thing I know for sure would be included would be removing the ads when browsing the site. As for other features, I am looking to hear from you all as to what you would want to even consider upgrading to a premium membership.

Possible ideas: Larger storage limits for the galleries (right now there is a limit, however as of now I have no enforced it), no advertisements, the ability to email in blog posts or images (so you can work via cell phone), the ability to have private/password protected blogs (for example a blog just for your family members)

Let me know your thoughts! Please post "constructive" comments below... such as whether you would be interested or not and what you would want to see if you were interested.

Remember, the intent is for the site to remain FREE for all as it is now.

Lastly, I know I have been absent for a few months but I have been busy with family and some other projects I work on. I would love Blogstream to continue to grow and to be able to continue to improve the site! There are a lot of blog sites out there, however I believe Blogstream is different than most in that it is truly a community of people that care for each other.

I think you are on the right track - a fee to ensure you cover your expenses and ensure you make a profit for the time and effort makes sense to me. I am a KISS type person - one of the reasons I use your service is because it is easy to use. Bells and whistles don't do it for me - easy and effective is much more important - and I am willing to help you support this effort financially. Keep up the good work - don't give up your day job - and, hope those of us who benefit from your efforts will be willing to share the cost and make it worth your while to keep it going.

Yes, I'd be willing to pay a reasonable fee.

I wouldn't mind a $20.00 a year fee either. I use my blog for genealogy so I don't get to add every day. It takes a while to get it all together but I like my blog cause it is so easy to add content. I LOVE the idea of PLENTY of gallery space...like unlimited. I am a picture person...past and present. Would we be able to have a couple of blogspaces? I know it seems like 3 is enough but for me it isn't. Please keep up the good work and please don't delete me. Thanks

Greetings Pioneer...
I would be quite willing to pay  $20 a year to help with the Bandwidth and so on...
This is a low VERY fair price indeed...

Very much enjoy
~Blogstream~

What I would find useful?
Well that would be to continue to allow those who pay to have let's say fifteen pages of pictures...
Heck that alone would be worth the yearly fee...

Those with literally 30-40 (an more) pages of pictures is in my opinion is totally ridiculous as well as unnecessary...

Indeed I am surprised you have allowed that to continue this long,  as other sites would not have...

In my opinion (suggestion) I would NOT take away the Banners as you probably know that would/could possible negate the very reason you are considering offering a fee based service...
Unless of course that would be like a $50 fee per year?

Hence, I would indeed KEEP the Banners as they help support your system I am sure with each click...
I click, yes I do...

~Peace~

Hi: I have been trying to change my url and blog. Is there any way of cancelling out a current blog with it's url?

I know that your costs are going to increase, there is no such thing as a free lunch. I would not be adverse to paying the small annual premium that you suggested in liew of the adds.

Well Pioneer I was wondering if say certain bloggers did, I dunno, a cyber strip tease for you would they become a featured blogger? I know of one blogger Mokie Joe who sure can shake what his momma gave him. Ohhhh I'm kidding, actually I was offering my cyber stripping services, I just hope donuts get you hot!!

Oh and as far as the fee, I am all for it if it means I will never see those Colon Cleansing ads ever again, how rude... my gosh I have never had anyone complain about my colon's cleanliness. Geez I wash it with Fantastic and Mr Clean what more can I do? So if coughing up ten bucks will eradicate those colon ads I'll do it.

I love Blogsteam and would not want to not have it..so yes..I would pay to keep it..matters not about the ads..they make money so no sense in throwing the baby out with the bathwater..one thing you have changed that is really bice and that is the gallery..last pictures first..now if you would do that for when we post..that would rock..

The features would depend on the amount of service? That sounds kewl, but do you think you could add "Teen Chat" to the possibilities of paid subscriber? I've always wondered how you kept the site going on free participants. I know that on other blogs, paid subscribers have the ability to have their blog "Private" or "Public" and you can invite your own friends or family to your blog and keep readers from reading it unless you invite them. That is awesome. Would those be some of the features? I would pay for that type of service.

Great idea.

John,

You have created a community here. Commerce is commerce, however. If you need help in the form of a few bucks as a stipend from us, that's cool. I'd shell out to keep the stream alive.

Peace, T.

Us 'Oldies of the Goldies' are happy to pay $30-40/yr to help keep a great blog alive and well. But you need a site where megarich such as Bill Gates and Warren Buffet, may secretly help. Now we were shocked to find that Google cofounders Sergi Brin and Larry Page host colon flush ads: So we were saddened to find that others have whiffed Brin-Page's colons, for example 'Donuts' (4 comments above this). Now does nice Ms Cracker (3 comments above) want fills in Cracker? We agree with others for need to keep all blogs working OK fast. So number of photos must be limited: Too many photos use excess server and band width space--unfair to others: Some bloggers use many photo shots of the same beer bar's neon ad. Are they gay strippers, saying BJs here? In fact one bar has a sign 'Foley, Barney and B were here, secretly'. http://finnics7.blogstream.com.

If you give me more cute little emoticons and a few more choices for text color and back ground color, I'll be good for $10 a month, possibly $20. I just joined at the first of the month and already things are changing $$$ but I can understand your need to have some financial backing. So I guess if I want to be part of the stream, it's going to have to be for a price. But let the bare minimum be $10 for bare minimum membership. No frills or third class, $10 with the ability to upgrade if we like what we get for $20?

In any event, thank you so much for your time and care with this blogsite. Your efforts are appreciated as you can see from reading of the posts and the close-knit feeling of the more frequent bloggers over the last year. I'm just sorry I didn't discover the site earlier

I have no problem with a fee. A $20 or $30 fee per year wouldn't be bad at all , I appreciate the oppertunity to have a blog. I would like to see it expand more to reach people out side the blog, or be more public, thanks for the blog.

I'm willing to pay 10-20$s a year for membership. I have enjoyed BLOGSTREAM sinced I first starting blogging. I haven't been blogging for a while because our computer was messing up and changing ISP.

Count me in - to keep on blogging!

Pioneer,
I certainly wouldn't mind paying $20 a year for your service. I just don't want it to be another My Space. I would also like your users to use a spell checker before they submit a comment.

I would pay up to $30 a year for a premium membership with whatever was included, or, say, $10 a year for a basic membership. But I will say this, if Blogstream had not been free a year ago when I joined, I wouldn't have joined, mainly because I wasn't sure if I would want to keep doing it or not. I don't know if a cost would deter new bloggers from joining or not, but it's something for you to consider.
Thanks, Pioneer, for providing this great site!!

I would happily pay, I am here to stay and would enjoy any increase in benefits you offered to paying members. Keep up the good work. One of the nicest features I think would be to offer in house email so that I would not have to use my own ISP. I would not mind keeping the ads as they are very easy to live with on Blogstream in order to have the ability to have an email here at the stream for pms. Pioneer this has been a most enjoyable year here at the stream for me!

We realize it may take some effort on the part of your webmaster or yourself to do the following--allow people to get blogstream for a free trail period of 30 days. Also in America there are many very low income people. Yet they should be given the joy of having a blog. So perhaps after a free 30 days, then require a $10-40/yr--or a sum they can afford.

Now we have noticed that some bloggers and others have had their computors infected with various nasties--bugs, worms, viruses. We have an HP Microsoft PC. Yet a Mac is better--less nasties get on it. But we use HP. In any event we would like to share how we have prevented nasties from infecting and slowing down or freezing our PC. Every AM we run 5 'Cleaners'. Before we start making coffee, and breakfast we turn on the PC--and let it do its thing for 5 minutes or so. Then we run 'Spyware Detector'--this one costs only $30/yr., but well worth it: Its run takes 5 min. Then we run 'Trend Micro' (free): Its run takes 7 min. Next we run 'Ad-Aware SE personal' (free): Its run takes 10 minutes. And last we run 'Norton Anti-virus': It costs $30-70/yr. Its run takes 45 min. On it we click the minimize window, and we proceed to begin working on our PC, while Norton is running. Also there is one free anti-virus one, McAfee: But understandably as it is free it is not as often updated as Norton: Yet it is good to use by those with low incomes.

One most important last bit of info. PCs get attacked constantly every hour. So after one has visited some sites, it is wise to run Spyware Detector. For example just this AM after visiting one questionable site we decided to run it. And it found 7 worms. Have a bug free day. finnics7.

Pioneer, I'd like to thank you for not enforcing the gallery space so far, since I use a ton of it. So, I'd be happy to pay a fee for that space, as well as the ability to have a private family blog. Where do I sign up?

Pioneer,

The premium membership would be a good idea. Some would probably stay at the free level, but I would make a suggestion if I may. Some of us are challenged when it comes to blog palettes, backgrounds etc. For the premium membership could you consider a few preset backgrounds for those of us more challenged users? Something that we could just point and say ADD. HTML code just frustrates me, so I keep my blog palette as an original one.

I agree, i love the "stream" a yearly fee would be acceptable. But easier ways to apply backgrounds etc. for us challenged bloggers. I don't like the idea of this becoming a " teen scene" though. They have Myspace. I would hate to be in a popularity contest, i already went to High School

When my grandson googled my name, Tommye Rodrigues, he found my blog postings there (not the private ones). I am curious - who put it there, can you tell me. I do not understand how that works. I enjoy your site very much.

If, in order for this to be a paying proposition for you, you find you need to do this, do it. We will go along I my guess.

Thank you, Tommye Rodrigues

Google, as with other search engines, contstantly "crawl" websites like ours looking for new content. They scan our site thousands of times a day to index content so that people can find it through search engines.

hey feller ... as you may or may not know, I have two paid Premium accounts. However, when you asked for ideas on what we would want, I say more choices with settings and setup, i.e., headers would be nice, better formats ... to take away all that gunk at the top ... I also have accts with Blogger, and like the new updated version of blogger beta, if you guys could do something like that ... that would be killer !!!

which junk are you referring to?

If you mean the top browse bar, we will not be removing that as that is the only thing that allows people to navigate around blogstream.

I just signed up on New Years day and posted my first blog. I intend to keep adding to it as soon as I figure out how to use all the good things that are available. I do not see a small yearly fee as a problem if it improves the site, which I'm sure it will.

Hi! Love what I'm able to do, but I thought I could put in Power Point things, maybe that's what a web page is for? If you decide to upgrade to that, I'll be certainly interested! I'm sure that you'll let everyone know when / if that happens! Keep up the good work!

At first I didn't know much about blogging, but now that my English teacher made the whole class start doing it once a week, I started to learn more about it and like it. I think it's a great way to communicate. I sure would pay to get a membrship.
